The word homily means “explanation” in Greek. The liturgical practice of explaining Scriptures is rooted in ancient Jewish practice. The homily is to be given only by an ordained minister: a deacon, priest or bishop. While the other Scripture readings may be proclaimed by religious or laity, only a deacon, priest or bishop is to read the Gospel. It is the particular responsibility of the bishop as a successor of the apostles to teach the apostolic faith. By virtue of their ordination, priests and deacons share in this particular responsibility and may also proclaim the Gospel and deliver the homily at Mass.
Items of a Religious or Community Nature: Are welcome for this Parish Newsletter. Notices should be given in by Wednesday Afternoon to The Parish Office (Tel 025-30856) or email email@example.com
