If you wish to enrol your child for FIRST HOLY COMMUNION in Fermoy in 2023 please read this letter and fill out the online APPLICATION form below.

All ceremonies in St Patrick’s church except for those indicated. Time: provisionally at 11am.

Dates for First Confession Ceremonies: These will probably be in Spring. Usually on a midweek date, evening time. This will be arranged in due course.

The task of preparing your child for receiving these sacraments is divided in the following three ways:

  1. You the parents
  2. The child’s school teachers
  3. The parish, as led by the clergy

The role of the school teacher (No. 2 above) is ongoing and we are grateful to our schools for the support that they give. However, in order that No. 1 (the role of the parent) and No. 3 (the role of the parish) are aided, Fermoy Parish is now running PREPARATORY SESSIONS that we would like you and your child to engage with. Such a course was delivered for the last three years and was successful.

Details of Preparatory Sessions:

  1. Sunday 15th January. Preparatory Session #1, Fermoy Community Youth Centre, Theatre, Ashe Quay, 9.15am, followed by the entire group attending 10.30am Mass in St Patrick’s Church.
  2. Sunday 12th February. Preparatory Session #2, Fermoy Community Youth Centre, Theatre, Ashe Quay, 9.15am, followed by the entire group attending 10.30am Mass in St Patrick’s Church.
  3. Sunday 12th March. Preparatory Session #3, Fermoy Community Youth Centre, Theatre, Ashe Quay. 9.15am, followed by the entire group attending 10.30am Mass in St Patrick’s Church.
  4. Sunday 2nd April. Preparatory Session #4, Fermoy Community Youth Centre, Theatre, Ashe Quay. 9.15am, followed by the entire group attending 10.30am Mass in St Patrick’s Church.

In these Preparatory sessions, we, the clergy of the parish, with other support personnel will provide you, the parents, with instruction and guidelines related to your child’s preparation for the sacraments.

This COURSE also involves equipping you with a beautifully illustrated book called “My First Holy Communion” – see photos below – which will help you, as parent(s), to engage in “home-activity” with your child between the preparatory sessions and in preparation for the sacraments. The book is available in English or Irish (as you wish). We will also supply a parent guidebook. The overall cost of the programme is 10 Euro. We will deliver the materials and tell you how to pay the fee to you AFTER you apply.
