If you wish to enrol your child for FIRST HOLY COMMUNION in Fermoy in 2022 please read this letter and fill out the online APPLICATION form below.

Dates of First Holy Communion Ceremonies: [30.4.22 Gaelscoil] [7.5.22 Grange] [14.5.22 Presentation] [21.5.22 Bishop Murphy] [28.5.22 Clondulane] [28.5.22 St Joseph’s in Queen of Peace church]. All ceremonies in St Patrick’s church except for St Joseph’s. Time: provisionally at 11am.

Dates for First Confession Ceremonies: These will probably be in March. To be confirmed soon. Usually on a midweek date, evening time.

The task of preparing your child for receiving these sacraments is divided in the following three ways:

  1. You the parents
  2. The child’s school teachers
  3. The parish, as led by the clergy

The role of the school teacher (No. 2 above) is ongoing and we are grateful to our schools for the support that they give. However, in order that No. 1 (the role of the parent) and No. 3 (the role of the parish) are aided, Fermoy Parish is now running a Short Course that we would like you and your child to engage with. Such a course was delivered for the last two years and was successful.

Details of Course:

  1. Online ZOOM session, 40 mins, for parent(s) and child on Monday 7th February at 7pm.
  2. Online ZOOM session, 40 mins, for parent(s) and child on Monday 7th March at 7pm.
  3. Online ZOOM session, 40 mins, for parent(s) and child on Monday 28th March at 7pm.
  4. Online ZOOM session, 40 mins, for parent(s) and child on Monday 25th April at 7pm.

ALL ZOOM SESSIONS TO BE ATTENDED BY PARENT(S) and CHILD.

In these zoom sessions, we, the clergy of the parish, with other support personnel will provide you, the parents, with instruction and guidelines related to your child’s preparation for the sacraments.

This COURSE also involves equipping you with a beautifully illustrated book called “My First Holy Communion” – see photos below – which will help you, as parent(s), to engage in “home-activity” with your child between the Zoom sessions and in preparation for the sacraments. The book is available in English or Irish (as you wish). We will also supply a parent guidebook. The overall cost of the programme is 10 Euro. We will deliver the materials to you after you apply.
