Faith requires practice and perseverance: Remember that the Sacrament of Confirmation is not to be seen as merely a one-day event – you are committing to be a life-long witness for Christ in the world and to be an active member of the community of Christ, the Church. Faith is a Use-It-Or-Lose-It gift.

What is the Sacrament of Confirmation?: Confirmation is the sacrament that confirms us in our Baptism, bringing it to completion, a further outpouring of the Holy Spirit on us, strengthening us and making us fit to be witnesses to Jesus Christ in the world, sharers in His mission, active members of his Church, dedicated to building up the kingdom of God on earth.

Bishop: My dear friends; in baptism God our Father, gave the new birth of eternal life to his chosen sons and daughters. Let us pray to our Father that he will pour out the Holy Spirit to strengthen His sons and daughters with his gifts and anoint them to be more like Christ, the Son of God.All pray in silence for a short time. The bishop then extends his hands over the candidates and says:

All powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and daughters from sin and gave them eternal life. Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their Helper and Guide. Give them the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of right judgement and courage, the Spirit of knowledge and reverence. Fill them with the Spirit of wonder and awe in your Presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

All: Amen
